Trello vs Asana: Price, Free Plans and Features Compared

November 6, 2026

Pick Trello if you want simple Kanban boards, a free plan for up to 10 people and the cheapest paid plan at $5 a user a month. Pick Asana if you run projects with deadlines, dependencies and reports, and want timeline and Gantt views on its first paid plan.

Both are task and project tools with boards, mobile apps and a free plan. Trello starts from the board and adds views as you pay more. Asana starts from projects and tasks and adds planning and reporting tools.

Which is cheaper, Trello or Asana?

Trello is cheaper at every level. Trello Standard costs $5 a user a month billed yearly, or $6 billed monthly. Trello Premium costs $10 a user a month billed yearly, or $12.50 monthly, and Enterprise is listed at $17.50 a user a month, billed yearly.

Asana Starter costs $10.99 a user a month billed yearly, or $13.49 billed monthly. Asana Advanced costs $24.99 a user a month billed yearly, or $30.49 monthly.

The fairer comparison is feature by feature. Trello Premium ($10) is where Trello adds Calendar, Timeline, Table, Dashboard and Map views. Asana Starter ($10.99) is where Asana adds Timeline and Gantt views, reporting dashboards, forms and unlimited automations. At that level the two cost about the same.

Which free plan is better?

Trello's, if you have a team. Trello's free plan is free for up to 10 collaborators per Workspace, with unlimited cards and up to 10 boards per Workspace. Asana's free Personal plan is meant for one or two people: its pricing page says "2 users collaborate for free".

Asana's free plan is more generous in other ways. You get unlimited tasks and projects, list, board and calendar views, and files up to 100 MB each. Trello's free plan has unlimited storage but caps each file at 10 MB.

What we checked on 6 November 2026

We read both pricing pages on 6 November 2026. Trello's Free plan listed unlimited cards, up to 10 boards per Workspace, unlimited Power-Ups per board, 10 MB per file and 250 Workspace command runs a month, for up to 10 collaborators. Asana's Personal plan listed 2 users, unlimited tasks and projects, list, board and calendar views, and 100 MB per file.

Trello's FAQ also said that if you cancel a paid plan, the Workspace becomes a free Workspace that can hold 10 boards, so a team that grew past 10 boards on a paid plan will hit that limit again after downgrading.

Which is easier to use?

Trello is simpler to start with. Everything is a board with lists and cards, and you move cards across columns as work progresses. Trello also has a quick capture inbox that turns emails and messages from Slack and Microsoft Teams into to-dos.

Asana takes more setup but gives you more structure. Tasks can have dependencies, and on Starter you can plan schedules on a timeline or Gantt view, build forms that turn requests into tasks, and add custom fields for priorities or budgets. If your projects have deadlines that depend on each other, that structure saves time.

Which works better for a growing team?

Asana, once you are past simple boards. Asana Starter has no user seat limit and includes unlimited free guests, which helps when you work with clients or partners. Asana's paid plans also include its AI tools, AI Teammates and AI Studio, according to its pricing page.

Trello scales with you through its paid plans and is an Atlassian product. Single sign-on on Trello Enterprise comes through Atlassian Guard, which Trello says is a separate subscription starting at $4 a user a month.
