Evernote vs Notion: Free Plans, Limits and Switching

November 6, 2026

Pick Notion if you want a free plan you will not outgrow quickly, databases and shared pages for a team, and a built-in way to import your old Evernote notes. Pick Evernote if you mainly clip web pages, scan documents and keep a classic notebook-style archive, and you are ready to pay, because its free plan stops at 50 notes on one device.

Evernote is a note archive: notebooks, tags, a web clipper and search. Notion is a workspace where notes sit next to databases, project boards and wikis. Which one suits you depends on whether you want a place to store things or a place to organise work.

Which free plan is better, Evernote or Notion?

Notion's, clearly. On 6 November 2026, Evernote's plan comparison page listed its Free plan at 50 notes, 1 notebook, 20 tags, 200 attachments, 1 GB of storage and sync on 1 device. If you use your phone and your laptop, the free plan does not cover both.

Notion's Free plan, checked the same day, let a single user add as many pages and blocks as they like. Its limits are elsewhere: file uploads up to 5 MB each, 7 days of page history, and a block limit once two or more members share a Free workspace.

Which is cheaper, Evernote or Notion?

For one person, Notion, because its free plan is enough for most personal notes. Notion's paid plans are priced per member: Plus at $10 and Business at $20 a month, with up to 20% off for yearly billing. Students and educators can get Plus, limited to one member, for free.

Evernote's individual paid plans are now called Starter and Advanced. Starter raises the limits to 1,000 notes, 20 notebooks, 3 devices and 5 GB of storage. Advanced removes the note, notebook, device and storage limits, apart from what Evernote calls safeguard limits against abuse. Evernote's comparison page did not show prices without choosing a plan, so check the price at checkout. It does say eligible college students get 40% off a one-year Advanced subscription.

Can I move my notes from Evernote to Notion?

Yes, and Notion has an importer for it. In Notion, go to Settings, then Import, then Evernote, or type /evernote on a page. Notion's help page says Evernote notebooks become pages and notes become items in a database.

Notion lists some limits worth knowing before you start. It says imports are reliable up to about 5,000 notes and larger imports may fail, there is no progress bar, Evernote's rate limits can slow the import down, images may need cleanup, and only the standard edition of Evernote is supported, not Evernote Teams.

Which is better for clipping, scanning and searching?

Evernote is built for it. It offers web clipper extensions for Chrome, Firefox and Safari, and its plan page lists AI features such as AI Assistant, semantic search, AI Transcribe, AI Edit and AI Cleanup, with AI Cleanup available on mobile only. It also lists offline notes as a core feature.

Notion is better when notes need to turn into work. Pages can hold databases with subtasks and dependencies, and you can share pages with guests. Notion also works offline in its desktop and mobile apps, but you pick which pages to keep offline on each device, unless you are on Business or Enterprise, where recent and favorited pages download automatically.

Which is better for teams?

Notion. It is designed around shared workspaces, with paid plans that add longer page history (30 days on Plus, 90 days on Business) and, on Business, advanced connections to other tools.

Evernote has business plans too, called Flexible and Unlimited, with centralised admin, user activity logs and single sign-on. Unlimited is sold through its sales team.

If you want to look beyond these two, our list of Evernote alternatives covers other note apps.
