Update Android Orea 8.0 on Nexus 7 (2013) with LineageOS
LineageOS is free and community-based firmware distribution of Android 8.0 (Oreo) that is going to be awesome for many Android users whose smartphone companies haven’t given official Android Oreo 8.0 OS update for their smartphones. You can use LineageOS to get Oreo 8.0 installed on your Android smartphone without having to get an official software update from the manufacturer. It is more like custom ROM like CyanogenMod which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS Custom ROM for Nexus 7 2013
Now, you don’t have to worry about the official Android software update because LineageOS is going to help you update the Android version of your smartphone without stock firmware update by the company. LineageOS is based on Android Open Source Project along with the contributions of many people from Android community. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway. You don’t have to keep all Google’s built-in apps on your smartphone if you are using LineageOS custom ROM that means it can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. However, you will have to install Google Applications package (gapps). Everything is open source in LineageOS and you can get all the source code for LineageOS from Github repo.
Are you wondering, what’s working on installing LineageOS for the first time:
- Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth
- Audio
- Sensors
- Lights
- GPS
- NFC?
Known issues:
- Camera is broken
- NFC is incomplete for now and can be messy
- SELinux is in permissive mode
