OEM Unlock is a setting in Android's Developer Options that allows you to unlock your device's bootloader.
What is OEM Unlock?
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Unlock is a toggle in Android's Developer Options that permits bootloader unlocking. Without enabling this option first, you cannot unlock the bootloader on most Android devices.
How to Enable OEM Unlock
- Go to Settings → About Phone
- Tap Build Number 7 times to enable Developer Options
- Go to Settings → Developer Options
- Enable OEM Unlocking
Why Enable OEM Unlock?
- Required before unlocking bootloader
- Necessary for installing custom ROMs
- Required for rooting
- Installing custom recovery (TWRP)
Important Warnings
- Enabling OEM Unlock alone doesn't unlock bootloader
- Unlocking bootloader will erase all data
- Voids warranty on most devices
- Some carriers disable this option
