NAND is a type of non-volatile flash memory used in smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices for data storage.

What is NAND?

NAND flash memory gets its name from the logical "NOT AND" (NAND) gate it uses. It's the primary storage technology in modern mobile devices, storing everything from the operating system to your apps and personal data.

NAND in Android Context

When dealing with Android rooting and custom ROMs, you'll often encounter:

  • Nandroid Backup - A complete backup of your device's NAND storage
  • NAND partitions - Different sections of storage (system, data, boot, recovery)

Nandroid Backup

A Nandroid backup created through TWRP or CWM saves a complete image of your device's current state, allowing you to restore it exactly as it was.
