How it works

We use the heic2any library to decode the HEIC/HEIF image data on your device and re-encode it as a standard JPG or PNG you can open, share or upload anywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert HEIC to JPG on Windows or Android?

Use the Softstribe HEIC to JPG Converter. Upload your HEIC file, select JPG or PNG output, and click Convert. The conversion runs in your browser using JavaScript — your photos are never sent to a server. No Windows codec or app installation needed.

Why does my iPhone save photos as HEIC instead of JPG?

Apple introduced HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) with iOS 11 to save storage. HEIC files are typically half the size of equivalent JPG files with the same quality. However, HEIC is not supported by all apps and devices, which is why converting to JPG is often necessary.

Is HEIC better quality than JPG?

HEIC can store the same visual quality at roughly half the file size of JPG. It also supports 16-bit colour depth versus JPG's 8-bit, giving better dynamic range. For sharing and compatibility, however, JPG remains the universal standard.

Can I convert HEIC to PNG to preserve transparency?

HEIC supports transparency (alpha channel) but most iPhone photos don't use it. If your HEIC contains transparency (uncommon), converting to PNG preserves it. JPG does not support transparency.
