Gaana: Your Partner To Enjoy Music
Gaana is a music streaming app originally developed and based in India. “Gaana” is the Hindi & Urdu term used for song. However it’s nowhere near region specific just because of its name, the app is available all over the world.
It offers both native and international music, also features music from multiple languages such as Malyalam, Telugu, Punjabi and Bengali among others. Gaana supports a total of 16 languages.
The service is available to all the major platforms. Gaana.com is the domain name to access it on the web. As for the mobile phones, the app is cross-platform so it’s available in iOS, Android & Blackberry.
You can also download the desktop version of the app in Windows 10.
How it started
The app was launched in April 2010 by Times Internet. It first started as a website to stream and listen audio songs. Later on, the developers expanded its services as a mobile app.
Now its ever growing database boasts more than 45 million songs. And they keep on updating the database with the latest songs, albums and music.
What makes so appealing
For me, as a music lover, there is always a need of a music app in my phone. I chose Gaana for this purpose due to its variety and quality of songs.
Although there are a couple alternatives for music streaming such as Hungama & Saavn. However, Gaana feels so intuitive to me and so user-friendly.

Multilingual Support:
As discussed earlier, it supports multiple native languages. The supported languages are:

Gaana has this solution for you in such scenarios. The app listens to you as you sing the song and tells you which song or music is this. Sounds cool, right?
I personally love this feature a lot because it happens often to me that some random song is playing in the public transport or some restaurant however I don’t know its name. That’s where Gaana makes my life easier.
Choose Equalizer
Back in the days of Windows Media Player, playing with equalizer was the coolest thing to do. Gaana fulfills that wish of a music lover. Fortunately, Gaana has an equalizer where you can choose what is best for you and the songs you listen to. It determines your taste and determines the songs you will likely like, based on your listening history and your likes.
However, Gaana has some problems with this feature in some devices. But most devices work just fine.
Download HD Music:
You can download or save music to your storage for offline listening. You can save HD quality music. However you will need to purchase premium membership or subscribe, before Gaana allows you the ability to download music.
Radio Play:
Radio was a very mainstream media in the 90’s. Now it has been overshadowed by digital media as is print media. But there are still a lot of people who get nostalgic all over the topic of FM Radio. For such people, the app has a Radio play option. Which will bring you back to the good old days of walkman and cassettes and waiting for your favorite radio show.
Listen to Stories (Shows & Podcasts)
Among others, Gaana got this Listen to Stories features, where you listen to stories, poetries, motivational content, daily astrology, news and even audio movies too. It’s like a educational section of the app, where popular podcasts are get featured.
The audio movies database is huge and many movies are available there. They tend to update the audio movie section regularly.
Lyrics
Sometimes you don’t quite know the lyrics of a song, that’s why Gaana got you covered. It’s got this lyrics feature, so you can watch every song’s lyrics as it’s playing.
Video Streaming:
The latest version of this app supports video streaming for songs too. The quality here is not very premium as it is in the early stages. But it surely will improve with time.
Pricing & Conclusion:
You might have the question that if all these goodies are free or paid? The answer cannot be a simple Yes or No.
Some features of the app are absolutely free. You can stream and listen to the songs online for free but cannot save or download the songs for offline access. For that, premium access is required.
For listening to HD quality songs, downloading songs and to remove the ads, you will have to pay them for a Plus subscription. The charges differ according to the plan you choose.
For instance, the standard 1 year Plus plan was Rs.999 INR but now is for Rs.399 INR. And 15 month Plus plan is for 549 INR.
What if you just want the annoying ads to not exist and does not want the other plus features. Well you can do this for just a minimal Rs.10 INR for a month.
I chose the 1 year Rs. 399 plan and the charges are not high in my opinion.
I highly recommend this app for the music lovers out there.
