Quick Fix: Cookies are blocked in WordPress

We all know WordPress team has been trying their best to provide our blogs high-quality secured interface and they have been updating WordPress core time to time. After the release of WordPress 4.3 recently, most of the WordPress users started complaining about an error which occurred in their WordPress sites when they try to login to their sites from an anonymous browser or other computer.

For your information, the error is not specifically for WordPress 4.3 users but it can occur in other WordPress installations too and this method of solving the error is applicable on all WordPress versions.

So, in this article I’m about to guide in 2 different ways to solve:

“Error: cookies are blocked or not supported by your browser. You must enable cookies to use WordPress.

ERROR: Cookies are blocked (WordPress Error)

Method #1: Change wp-login.php to wp-admin without refreshing

  • First of all, try to login to your site and see what happens.
  • If you keep facing the following error, then please check your login URL.

Error cookies are blocked or not supported by your browser. You must enable cookies to use WordPress.

  • You might find your website login URL above in the browser like: yoursite.com/wp-login.php
  • Here, go to yoursite.com/wp-admin without refreshing the page
  • That’s it. If you no longer facing the error you are done or if you still troubleshoot that error please following the method #2.

Method #2: How to enable cookies for specific site in Chrome and Firefox

If the method #1 didn’t work for you, then you have to enable cookies in your browser to login to your WordPress site. Here is how you can enable cookies for specific site in Chrome and Firefox:

a. Enable cookies in Chrome

  • Go to any website and click on the little page icon from the starting of the site link and click site settings as shown in the following screenshot (alternatively go to chrome://settings/content)

  • Now click the button Manage Exceptions (Alternatively go to chrome://settings/contentExceptions#cookies)

  • Just add your site to the list here like this: [*.]yoursite.com and click the button DONE
  • Once done, you will be able to login via chrome browser into your WordPress site by now.

b. Enable cookies in Firefox

  • Run the Firefox and click the Menu button from top right corner and click Options

  • Click Privacy tab
  • Here, you can see under History, Firefox will and select Use custom settings for history
  • Now, set the things up as per as following screenshots

So, now after following this article and make changes to your browsers as described you will be able to troubleshoot the so called WordPress error:

“Error: cookies are blocked or not supported by your browser. You must enable cookies to use WordPress.
